International researchers take to the stage at Trans-Atlantic Platform
Digging into Data Conference 2020
[December 18, 2019] Ottawa, Ontario – Trans-Atlantic Platform.
The Trans-Atlantic Platform for the Social Sciences and Humanities (T-AP) is pleased to announce the upcoming T-AP Digging into Data (DiD) Challenge Conference, to be held January 29-31, 2020 at the National Science Foundation (NSF) in Alexandria, Virginia (USA).
Sponsored by NSF[i]the conference will bring together funded researchers from the T-AP Digging into Data Challenge, funding agency representatives, and interested members of the public.
The aim of the conference is to explore the outcomes of the 14 international research projects funded in Round Four of the T-AP DiD Challenge, which has focused on data-intensive projects in the humanities and social sciences. Researchers will have the opportunity to showcase how new sources of data and new computational techniques can provide insights in the realms of media studies, information science, economics, linguistics, political science, and history. Some of the projects will explore new discoveries into child language development, the motivations behind self-organized collaborations, and the use of new analytical techniques for studying culture.
In 2017, 16 Trans-Atlantic Platform partners and international research funders jointly awarded approximately $9.2M US in funding for 14 international projects as part of T-AP’s pilot funding opportunity: The T-AP Digging into Data Challenge, Round Four. The teams were tasked with investigating how big data techniques may be applied to answer questions in the social sciences and humanities.
